Privacy Policy
– or what are your rights?

The «Jedes Alter zählt» (meaning ‘every age counts’) project, based at the UZH Healthy Longevity Center at the University of Zurich (UZH), is pleased to welcome you to the platform https://jedesalter.ch/en and the associated learning area https://lernen.jedesalter.ch (hosted via Moodle).

The Data Protection Act stipulates that you have the right to access, correct, delete, and restrict the processing of your personal data. In addition, you may object to the processing of your data and, where applicable, request that your data be provided to you in a commonly used electronic format.

Please find below a brief overview of what data we collect from visitors to https://jedesalter.ch/en and https://lernen.jedesalter.ch, for what purposes we collect, process, and disclose that data, and what measures have been taken to ensure the security of this data.

1 Scope of Data Protection

Data protection serves to safeguard personal rights. It requires data controllers to act in accordance with the law and grants data subjects enforceable rights regarding the processing of their personal data. According to Section 3 of the Canton of Zurich’s Information and Data Protection Act (IDG ZH), personal data refers to any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual. This includes, for example, details such as name, address, phone number, email address, or IP address.

2 Data Collection, Processing, and Storage

The platform is hosted on a decentralised web server operated by the UZH Healthy Longevity Center. Each time https://jedesalter.ch/en or https://lernen.jedesalter.ch is requested or accessed, the following access data is collected and stored in web server log files on servers belonging to the UZH Healthy Longevity Center:

  • the IP address of the requesting computer (e.g., 123.456.97.36)
  • the page/address (URL) from which https://jedesalter.ch/en and https://lernen.jedesalter.ch were requested
  • the path and name of the requested subpage of https://jedesalter.ch/en and https://lernen.jedesalter.ch
  • the date and time of the request (e.g., [15/Jul/2025:11:15:06 +0200])
  • the amount of data transferred
  • the access status
  • the type of access
  • a description of the web browser type or operating system used
  • the session ID
  • the serial number of the requesting computer

A blog post in the web log might look like this, for example:

10.27.153.91 – – [15/Jul/2025:11:15:06 +0200] “GET /wp-includes/js/jquery/ui/checkboxradio.min.js?ver=1.13.3 HTTP/1.1” 200 1422 “https://jedesalter.ch/en” “Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:128.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/128.0”

This data is processed for the following purposes:

  • Ensuring the network infrastructure and technical administration
  • Optimizing and evaluating the use of certain web services
  • Identifying and tracking unauthorized access attempts.

An immediate complete deletion of your data is technically not possible, as daily backups are created; however, the data contained therein is automatically deleted after 14 months at the latest. Web server log files are also stored for a period of 14 months after access has ended. After that, the web server log files are automatically deleted, unless a detected attack on our network infrastructure leads to civil or criminal prosecution of the attacker, thereby necessitating further storage.

3 Consent to Further Use of Data

The use of certain services on https://jedesalter.ch/en and https://lernen.jedesalter.ch (e.g., newsletters, contact forms, e-learning, participation in surveys, submission of experiences with age discrimination and age diversity) may require the further collection, processing, and long-term storage of personal data such as your name, address, or email address. If further use of your data is required, for example, for research purposes, we will inform you at the relevant points on the platform. In such cases, your data will only be used with your explicit consent, such as by clicking a button or agreeing to participate in a study. By entering and submitting this data, you consent to its processing.

4 Bekanntgabe von Personendaten

Personal data will be disclosed to third parties (e.g., other government agencies) only to the extent required by mandatory legal provisions (e.g., official requests, court orders) or for the purpose of legal or criminal prosecution (e.g., in the event of attacks on the UZH network infrastructure). Personal data is not disclosed to third parties for any other purposes.

Notwithstanding this, UZH may commission service providers to further process the data collected via https://jedesalter.ch/en and https://lernen.jedesalter.ch for the purposes mentioned above. UZH and the commissioned third-party service providers are required to ensure compliance with data protection regulations through legal, technical, and organizational measures.

5 Tracking-Settings

Our platform is currently under construction and is being continuously developed. We strive not to share any personal data with external services. Our goal is to ensure a data-minimal implementation without any third-party services that could identify users. However, we currently still are using some external web services (e.g., WordPress plugins, Google Fonts), which means that the processing of personal data by third parties (e.g., for the technical delivery of content or for usage analysis) cannot be ruled out. We continuously review which plugins are installed and ensure that they do not integrate third-party services whenever possible.

6 Cookies

When you visit https://jedesalter.ch/en and https://lernen.jedesalter.ch, so-called temporary cookies may be used. Cookies are small files that https://jedesalter.ch/en and https://lernen.jedesalter.ch store on your computer to ensure an optimal user experience. We use only technically necessary cookies that are required for the operation and basic functions of the website, such as logging in to the platform. We deliberately do not use tracking cookies, third-party analytics tools, or advertising. Your usage behavior is neither tracked nor shared with third parties.

7 Cross-references (links) to websites operated by other providers

This Privacy Policy applies only to https://jedesalter.ch/en and https://lernen.jedesalter.ch. If links provide access to content from other providers, we ask that you review their privacy policies. We are not responsible for either the content or the privacy practices of these other providers. In particular, we cannot guarantee that the content of other providers is free of malware.

8 Use of Social Media Plugins

The websites https://jedesalter.ch/en and https://lernen.jedesalter.ch do not use any additional programs in the form of so-called “social media plugins” that transmit IP addresses directly to social media providers. The graphical user interface controls (so-called “buttons”) visible on https://jedesalter.ch/en and https://lernen.jedesalter.ch are exclusively links to the respective social media providers.

9 Security

We implement technical and organizational security measures to ensure that the data we collect and process via https://jedesalter.ch/en and https://lernen.jedesalter.ch

  • remains confidential and is protected against accidental or unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure, as well as against loss and destruction; and
  • access to the data is granted exclusively on a “need-to-know” basis to those individuals who, by virtue of their role and responsibilities, must have access to the personal data.

The measures to be taken depend on the type of information, the nature and purpose of its use, and the current state of the technology.

10 Validity

We reserve the right to amend this Privacy Policy at any time, effective for the future, should the implementation of new technologies as part of the ongoing development of our platform or changes in the legal landscape necessitate such an amendment. We therefore recommend that you review the Privacy Policy regularly.
